1. Executive Summary

Axians Global (“Axians”) assessed the interoperability of Dell NetWorker software with Huawei OceanStor Pacific Scale-Out Storage. The goal of the assessment is to validate that Dell NetWorker is interoperable with Huawei OceanStor Pacific Scale-Out Storage.

In the assessment, Axians has determined that Dell NetWorker software backup and restore jobs will function with Huawei OceanStor Pacific Scale-Out Storage for the following scenarios:

2. Environment Configuration

  • Deployment at the production end:
  1. Deploy one ESXi physical host, install the VMware VM software, create VMs, and preconfigured production data at the production file system end for backup.
  2. The management network and service network are connected to the Dell NetWorker software and Huawei OceanStor Pacific Storage through switches.
  • Deploy the Dell NetWorker software: Use Linux VM servers as the Dell NetWorker server, manager console and storage node.
  • Deploy the DNS Server:Use one Windows Server VM as the DNS server.
  • Deploy the CloudBoost: Use VMware VMs as the Dell CloudBoos Devices.
  • Huawei OceanStor Pacific Scale-Out Storage: All storage nodes connect to the Dell CloudBoost through 10g Ethernet.

  • Deployment at the production end:

    2. The S3 services of the Pacific storage have been configured successfully, including accounts, namespace, access certificates, security certificates, and service network.
    3. The namespace of the S3 account has been configured on the Pacific storage and the object protocol has been enabled.

    Test Procedure

    1. On the CloudBoost Management Console page, select Cloud Profile to add a storage device through HTTP. When adding the storage device, set Cloud Storage Provider to S3-Generic.
    2. On the CloudBoost Management Console page, select Appliance Configuration and click VALIDATE to verify the cloud profile. After the verification is successful, click SAVE to create an appliance configuration.
    3. Adding a Device and Selecting CloudBoost on NetWorker.

    2. The S3 services of the Pacific storage have been configured successfully, including accounts, namespace, access certificates, security certificates, and service network.
    3. The namespace of the S3 account has been configured on the Pacific storage and the object protocol has been enabled.
    4. Prepare some large files and small files.
    5. The backup policy and backup workflow have been created. The backup destination pool is the pool associated with the CloudBoost device created in section 4.1.

    Test Procedure

    1. Right-click the backup workflow and start full backup job.
    2. Once the backup job finished, check the status of full backup job.
    3. Enter the recover page and create a recover job, restore files to another path, then start the recover job.
    4. Once the recovery job finished, check the status of the job and data consistence.

    Expected Result

    1. In step 2, the full backup job finishes successfully.
    2. In step 4, the recovery job finishes successfully, and restored files are the same as original files.
