Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage and Micro Focus Data Protector Interoperability Test Report

Executive Summary

Axians Global (“Axians”) assessed the interoperability of Micro Focus Data Protector software with Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage. The goal of the assessment is to validate that Micro Focus Data Protector is interoperable with Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage.

In the assessment, Axians has determined that Micro Focus Data Protector software backup and restore jobs will function with Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage for the following scenarios:

1. Environment Configuration

1.1 Networking Diagram

Networking description:

  • Deployment at the production end:
  1. Deploy one ESXi physical host, install the VMware VM software, create VMs, and install. Windows and Linux operating system.
  2. The management network and service network are connected to the Micro Focus Data Protector software and Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage through switches.
  • Deploy the Micro Focus Data Protector software: Use Linux VM servers as Micro Focus Data Protector Cell Manager. Use Windows VM servers as the Micro Focus Data Protector GUI client.
  • Deploy the AD Controller: Use one Windows server VM as the DNS controller for clients.
  • All storage devices connect to the Micro Focus Data Protector storage node through 10g Ethernet.

3.1 Add Dataturbo Share Source and Backup Policy

Prerequisites

  1. Deployment of storage device, backup server, Linux client, Windows client and networking have been completed.
  2. The storage is running properly.
  3. File system and Dataturbo share have been created on storage device.
  4. Hostname has been configured on Micro Focus Data Protector Linux client.
  5. Linux client has been configured in Micro Focus Data Protector Manager.

Test Procedure

  1. Run the Dataturbo create storage_object storage_name=name ip_list=IP command (name indicates the user-defined storage name and IP indicates the logical port IP address created in Configuring Networks) to establish a connection between OceanStor Dataturbo and the backup storage system.
  2. Run the Dataturbo mount storage_object storage_name=name filesystem_name=/fsname mount_dir=/mnt/test command to mount the file system created on the backup storage to the specified mount point.
  3. Create a new device as backup media
  4. Create a new Filesystem templates.
  5. Create a new Backup policy from the Filesystem template.

Expected Result

  3. Click StartBackup button and start backup policy again. Once the backup job finished, check the status of backup job.
  4. Enter the Restore page and start restore job. Restore the first backup files to a different location.
  5. Once the restore job finished, check the status of the job and data consistence.
  6. Enter the Restore page and start restore job. Restore the second files to a different location.
  7. Once the restore job finished, check the status of the job and data consistence.
  8. Check the performance of the Dataturbo client on the storage performance page.
